Food Protection Manager: Although certification is not required, managers must demonstrate knowledge and passing an accredited Food Safety Manager certification exam is one way to meet the requirement. Please check AAA Food Handler Training School's (AAAFHTS) Certified Professional Food Safety Manager (CPFSM), Convenience Store Food Safety Manager (CSFSM), and Grocery Store Food Safety Manager (GSFSM) programs for details.

Food Handlers: Recommended but not required. Please click the Basic Food Handler (BFH) link to get certified now.

Exceptions: Columbia, Franklin, Jefferson, St. Louis and St. Peters counties require Food Manager certifications. Please note: Franklin County food service workers must obtain a permit/card from the health department.

Manager Training Hours: No regulations on training or specific training, but recommended. AAAFHTS offers engaging and complete online as well as DVD video training series to help prepare for your Food Safety Manager certification examination.

Food Manager Certification and Food Handler Certificate Renewal: Food Manager every 5 years; Food Handler every 5 years.

Approved Options: Classroom, Home Study Course, Online Training, and Pearson Vue or Prometric Testing Centers.
