⦁ Are the Basic Food Handler and the Certified Professional Food Manager certification required in all states?
Answer: No. Please note that some states may not require one certification or the other; however, various counties within that state may require one or both. Please check out our pages on "state requirements" for your individual state requirements.

⦁ How quickly can I complete the Basic Food Handler (BFH) program and become certified?
Answer:

  1. Simply log into www.aaafoodhandler.com and click the link for "basic food handler program". You will gain access to register and complete the 2-hour training and 40 question examination.
  2. Cost per person is $12.95 for the all inclusive process (training, examination, and 3-year certificate).
  3. BFH certificate issued immediately upon completion and passing of examination.
  4. Certificates are valid throughout the U.S.
  5. BFH 30 Question Sample exam also available to help prepare for actual BFH test.


⦁ How quickly can I complete the Certified Professional Food Safety Manager program (CPFSM)? [This also pertains to the Convenience Store Food Safety Manager (CSFSM) and Grocery Store Food Safety Manager (GSFSM) programs.]
Answer:

  1. Online training can be taken and completed immediately upon registration and payment.
  2. Examination appointments can be made within 48 business hours. To register for the CPFSM exam and 5-Year Certificate, click here. (May vary upon test center availability. Please check with the AAAFHTS operator at time of registration for test appointment availability).

⦁ Is there a difference in recognition by Health Departments for one company, e.g., ServSafe vs. National Registry of Food Safety Professionals vs. Prometric, over the other?

Answer:

  1. No. Health Departments cannot demand or monopolize the legitimacy of only one private company. All Food Safety Manager Exams from these three companies, National Registry of Food Safety Professionals, ServSafe, and Prometric are ANSI accredited. All three are equally recognized throughout the United States and carry the same American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accreditation. 
  2. ServSafe does not offer testing at Online testing centers; however, National Registry and Servsafe recently joined together, and National Registry does offer testing at over 1,500 computerized test centers nationwide, while Prometric offers over 1,000 computerized test centers nationwide. Together, AAA Food Handler Training School can get you scheduled at over 2,500 test centers nationwide, Mon-Sat, 8am-6pm. You tell us the date and time you want to test, and we'll take care of the details for your appointments.
  3. All Food Safety Manager certifications from any of these three companies are valid for a period of 5-years. (Please check our "State Requirements" page for individual state and county requirements.)

⦁ What is the recommended procedure for completing the Certified Professional Food Safety Manager (CPFSM) certification program? [This also pertains to the Convenience Store Food Safety Manager (CSFSM) and Grocery Store Food Safety Manager (GSFSM) programs.]
Answer:

  1. Complete AAA Food Handler Training School (AAAFHTS) online, or Complete Home Study DVD video training course.
  2. Email or call AAAFHTS to request date, time, location of your choice for testing.
  3. After receipt of testing appointment containing necessary information, take examination at authorized test center.
  4. Immediate test results issued upon completion of examination. Passing student is immediately certified upon passing of examination, (hard-copy physical certificates take up to seven business days to be received).


⦁ Who is HACCP certification required for?
Answer: HACCP Manager Examination measures the level of food safety comprehension of workers in the retail and manufacturing industry who must follow HACCP plans.

  1. This certification is intended for managers in facilities such as food manufacturing, processing plants, food packing, and warehouses storing food for human consumption.
  2. HACCP certification is recommended and/or required for all facets of food manufacturing as well as Retail Food Service operations when deviating from accepted use of temperature as the primary control method for proper food safety and storage. Please check with your state and local county Environmental Health Department requirements.
  3. Training and examination may be taken in classroom environment with live instructor.
  4. Training may be done via self-study HACCP course book at students pace. (HACCP course book also available in Spanish) (Requirements may vary for certain states).
  5. Examination may be taken at authorized testing centers such as Pearson Vue test centers. What is a Basic Food Handler program for?
